Javascript Drop Menu Code Generator

June 16th, 2009 · No Comments

@Internet_Geek has been experimenting with different programming languages for Making Websites. In particular, he wanted to save space on his web page and create a Menu that is in the form of a Drop Down Box. Basically, a visitor would click the arrow on the side to drop down the menu and then click on the destination of their choice. Each item on the menu is linked to a URL which will take them to different pages on the website.

HTML – no dramas. Our resident Internet Geek is pretty knowledgeable in this area.

Javascript – not for the newbie. He may be a Geek but he’s no Nerd!

After some convincing from yours truly, he’s kindly offered to give away the fruits of his labor to our readers…

Javascript Drop Menu Code Generator

Javascript Drop Menu Code Generator is a tiny *.exe software package (223kb) that essentially allows you to input the Title of your Menu, the Text and URL for each option of your desired menu. Behind the scenes it is secretly creating the Javascript Code for your Drop Down Menu.

All you have to do is Cut and Paste this code into your website. Simple!

Here’s an Example menu:

Dreamweaver: Best Website Design Software

March 26th, 2009 · No Comments

I started out designing simple HTML websites back in 1997 using Notepad, the simple text editor that comes with Windows. I learned the absolute basics in computing in highschool and I loved it. It was easy for me, but I didn’t study web design any further than the basics.

A lot of people now use Microsoft Frontpage to design websites. I am pretty indifferent to this software and admit I do not use it a lot myself. Some people even use Word and Excel and use the “save as .htm” option (not recommended – the automatic coding is not clean).

A friend introduced me to Dreamweaver. I was hooked on this software and use it to this day. It has a code view and a design view. This means you could just see a white page with all the website coding and you could program your website that way, or you could see the page graphically and design it by inserting pictures and typing normally so that the page will look “as you see it”.  (This is called WYSIWYG – what you see is what you get)

I go one step further. I enable BOTH views at the same time. This is great because as you insert images or type text the corresponding code lines will be written for you automatically. This way you can also learn HTML. I developed rapidly designing websites in this way.

While all this may sound too hard, it isn’t really. If you can use a word processor such as Microsoft Word, you can use Dreamweaver to design your websites. Dreamweaver encompasses so many programming languages and functions that you will struggle to ever use them all. Even the basic version of the software is great.
